The chair takes the weight of a single adult
with ease; it is also portable, comfortable and aesthetic pleasing.

The flat pattern of the chair came out of a single
1800mm x1200mm sheet of xanita board.


i was pleased with the final result considering I only used
one sheet of xanita board. When it came to cutting
the flat pattern of my chair, i defied convention a l
ittle by using an angle grinder to do the job.

The main issue was trying to assemble the chair
on my own. Due to its shape, size and slotting
system an extra person is needed to assemble
the chair adequately.

Making my chair brand ready meant that the
graphics need to tie in with my event (design
made trade). Melbourne coffee is the cafe
that the chairs were designed for. My name
also features on the bottom as a design and marketing feature.


My chair was inspired by a kettle so I
added aesthetic handles to give it more character.
The xanita model was slightly modified to make the chair
look much cleaner, the tabs on the side of the chair
did not stick out but rather torsioned internally and
made inconspicuous.

This was the full scaled model of the final design.
It has been refined in a number of ways to improve i
ts function, stability and aesthetics.


The back support was moved forwards for comfort and
allowed you to get out of the chair easily


Tabs were introduced on the sides and top for stability
Rear of chair was more aesthetically pleasing when
squared off. This also gave the chair more stability as
it was supported on all four sides.
